The Peruvian unit of currency is the nuevo sol (S/.). US dollars are widely accepted for almost every payment. Credit Cards are also accepted. The exchange rate is more or less stable at: 3.40 to 3.50 for 1 US$ 
Bills: 10, 20, 50, 100 and 200
Coins: 1, 2 and 5 nuevos soles y de 5, 10 20 and 50 centimes

Banks and Casas de Cambio (Bureaux de Change)

Most banks and "Casas de Cambio" are concentrated in two of the first blocks of Avenida Sol, travelers checks can be exchanged in banks and "Casas de Cambio" In general banks open from Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 pm. and Saturdays until mid day. We recommend Banco de Cr�dito in order to get cash from your Visa Card. Travelers checks have a small commission of 1% or 3% depending weather you want soles or dollars. Banco Continental gets 5% commission. For getting cash for Mastercard or Visa you can go to Banco Santander Central Hispano. Tourist agencies also change dollars or travelers check but they charge a higher commission 4 to 5%. You will be able to get cash from an ATM using your Credit/Debit Card and PIN number. ATM's are usually located outside banks, at railway stations and airports.

Credit Cards

Credit cards most accepted are American Express, Diners, Master Card and Visa. 
Visa Office: Lima Tours, Portal de Harinas 177, Plaza de Armas. Tel. 22 84 31. In case you loose your Visa card you can cancel it by calling: 0-800-1-3333. For enquires about your Mastercard call 0-800-49510 or 24-49-46. If your card has been obtained abroad call Master Global Service 0-800-505-87.

Communications

Telephone
It is the most popular and efficient way of communicating in Cusco and in general in Peru. Public phones are easy to find and you can dial direct your national or international calls or you can do it through an operator they work both with money (centimes) and with Cards. The most popular is line 147 and this you can buy in Avenida Sol or in any of the Telephone Offices. 
From the main Telef�nica Office you can make international calls without having to introduce coins or have no more credit when using cards. You can ask assistance from the person in charge and talk from a private cabin in Avenida Sol, between 8 a.m. until 10 p.m. Tel: 24 62 85

Postal Service 
Postal service is efficient. Letters from Europe or the US take from one to two weeks to arrive and the cost is between 0.80 to 1 USD.

To call with coins within Cusco you have to put minimum 0.50 cents. 
If you call to a cellular phone you have to use 1.00 sol minimum 
To make an international call you need minimum 5 soles.

*To call long distance (international) you have to dial 00 + country code + city code + phone number
*To call long distance within Peru you have to dial 0 + city code + phone number 
If you require an operator for long distance within Peru dial 109
If you have to call to Peru from abroad dial 51 (country code) + area code + phone number
